Following a suggestion from Moscow, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday that his nation intends to construct a natural gas distribution centre in the Taraqiya region in the country’s northwest with Russia.
Erdogan stated in remarks quoted by the Turkish Anatolia News Agency, “We assigned with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and its Russian counterpart to work together.”

Erdogan was speaking to media after his meeting with Putin in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
According to the Russian Interfax News Agency, Putin proposed on Thursday that Turkey serve as a hub for Russian gas for third parties, including Europe, to build a new pipeline and trade natural gas to set prices.
Erdogan continued, “There is no delay here. Now the two sides cooperate. All safety precautions have been taken.

In the Turkish region of Taraqiya, there is a joint gas facility home to Ankara and Moscow.
