Security sources revealed that the police conducted a sizable chase operation, closing off a portion of the city until they apprehended the assailant.
At least two further persons, including a second police officer, were hurt and sent to the hospital, according to municipal mayor Mary Ann Baldwin, who spoke at a press conference.

Later on, rally police tweeted that “the suspect had been detained.”
According to the WTV TV, the suspect is thought to be a white adolescent carrying a sizable weapon.
Baldwin mentioned the involvement of numerous law enforcement agencies in the inquiry.
A police officer is one of five people killed in a shooting in North Carolina.
