The Lebanese Ministry of Health announces the registration of the first death in cholera in Lebanon

The first cholera death in Lebanon was registered today, Wednesday, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. The National Media Agency quoted a report by the Ministry that eight new injuries were recorded in cholera in the past twenty -four, which raised the total confirmed injuries to 26 in the northern regions since the disease was discovered in Lebanon on the fifth of this month.

Nasser Yassin, the Lebanese Business Government’s Minister of Environment, earlier announced that a road map to fight the cholera pandemic in collaboration with foreign organisations is still in place.

“The organisations will support all places that secure water for the camps of the displaced Syrians to ensure their cleanliness, and will support all sewage stations and pumping water with diesel, especially in the camps for the displaced in Baalbek, Akkar, the middle Bek,” Yassin said in a press statement following a meeting with international organisations to discuss ways to combat the cholera epidemic in the government serail in Beirut.

The minister emphasised that the Ministry of Energy will be required to install a service line for all sewage and pumping stations in order to operate them continuously. In addition, the Ministry of Energy will be required to start awareness campaigns in all areas where the population is densely populated.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health affirmed that it is carrying out all steps necessary to inspect water and sewage systems, collect samples, and set up hospitals.

Along with discussing the need to pay attention to dense, well-populated areas known as slums, the meeting also covered the necessity to pay attention to prisons and vaccinate all inmates.

The first cholera fatality in Lebanon has been registered, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
