Son’s brace helps Spurs take control of Champions League group

Son Heung-min scored twice as Tottenham overcame an early deficit and then held on to defeat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 this morning in the Champions League.
With two rounds left, Tottenham has moved a point ahead of Marseille and Sporting Lisbon in Group D thanks to goals from Harry Kane and other players.
However, the England captain’s missed penalty in added time made for a tense conclusion.
Antonio Conte, the manager, stated, “We could have scored many, many goals. We endure pain instead to the very end.

We must undoubtedly make an effort to educate ourselves on this circumstance and realise that the game is perpetual.
“But a significant victory for us. We had a challenging beginning, but we responded well, scored three goals, had numerous opportunities to improve, and in the end, we are in first place in our division.
Tottenham’s next game against Sporting will determine whether they advance to the round of 16.

Eric Dier’s sloppy defending allowed Frankfurt to score in the 14th minute after the England international lost possession of the ball in his own box. After Jesper Lindstrom pounced to seize control, Daichi Kamada successfully placed the ball into an open goal.
Six minutes later, Son scored the equaliser for the home team by slipping in after Kane’s pivotal pass.
Then it was Kane’s turn to get on the score sheet after being fouled by Kristijan Jakic in the box.

He duly scored in the 28th minute, giving him 21 goals in 28 outings in the Champions League.
When Son scored his second goal nine minutes before halftime, Spurs appeared to have the game in hand.
The South Korean lashed an unstoppable first-time volley into the roof of the net after being picked out by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Before halftime, Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp twice prevented him from scoring a hat trick.

Just before the hour mark, the German squad was reduced to 10 men, making their chances much less promising. Tuta was dismissed for fouling Son twice in the span of three minutes, each time earning him a yellow card.
However, if the home audience was hoping for Spurs to increase their lead, it didn’t happen.
Instead, Faride Alidou headed in Mario Gotze’s corner in the 87th minute to provide a tense end before Kane missed a stoppage time penalty that would have increased the margin of victory.

Spurs gain control of their Champions League group thanks to Son’s two goals.
