Schultz expects a quick decision on the continued use of nuclear energy in Germany

German Chancellor Olaf Schultz expressed his belief in the possibility of a quick decision by the German government regarding the continued use of nuclear energy due to the current energy crisis.
At a news conference held today, Wednesday, in Berlin, the Social Democratic lawmaker urged reporters to “make sure that we will complete this fast.”

Schultz emphasised that the issue is not about extending the use of nuclear energy in any way, but rather about figuring out the prerequisites for taking this step, what would be done specifically, and how quickly.

It is noteworthy that this action is the subject of debate within the ruling coalition between the Green Party and the Free Democratic Party, where the Green Party’s Robert Habik, the minister of economy, wants to keep only two of the three remaining reactors ready to operate through the spring of 2019 in preparation for the occurrence of electricity supply bottlenecks.

On the other hand, the Free Democratic Party urges the continued operation of all the three nuclear reactors until 2024, and the Finance Minister and party leader Kristian Lindner emphasized this requirement again on Monday.
The final three German nuclear reactors were to be decommissioned by the end of 2022 largely in the context of Germany’s abandonment of nuclear energy.

Schultz anticipates a swift decision regarding Germany’s continued use of nuclear power.
