Mossad President: The border agreement with Lebanon is harmful to Hezbollah

According to the newspaper “Gerwatzalem Post,” David Burnaa, the chief of Israel’s “Mossad” intelligence organisation, claimed today, Wednesday, that the agreement on the demarcation of the maritime borders with Lebanon “is injurious to Hezbollah.”
According to Baraneh, the Hezbollah organisation does not wish to concur because doing so would amount to a formal recognition of Israel by the Lebanese state, which the group rejects.

The intelligence chiefs and employees in Israel, who were also mentioned by the publication, said that “anyone believes that the maritime border deal represents an achievement for Hezbollah does not comprehend the situation in Lebanon.”
In this context, Barnaa added that Hezbollah began dealing with the issue of the maritime border agreement in a serious way only last May, when he realized that public opinion in Lebanon supports the agreement.

Hezbollah did not want an agreement with Israel, but he saw that it has a chance to win favour with the public given the internal political situation in Lebanon.
In the same context, the Israeli National Security Adviser, Eyal, said in a journalistic briefing today, that “the agreement will work to stabilize the security situation in the face of Lebanon, which is the first political settlement towards Lebanon in 40 years.

He pointed out that “the agreement will remove the threat from the Krish platform, and allow calm and the absence of more allegations related to the maritime borders,” adding that “there is an Israeli security interest in strengthening the state of Lebanon because it weakens Hezbollah.

According to a statement released by the office of Prime Minister Yair Labid, “This comes as the Israeli government approved today, Wednesday, with a large majority, the principles of the agreement to demarcate the maritime borders with Lebanon, which was reached between the two countries by Americans, to be presented to the Knesset for the final approval.

In the statement, it was stated that the government’s members had “expressed their support for the importance of the maritime agreement with Lebanon and the urgency of reaching it during this era.”

According to him, “the competent authorities reviewed during the government session the principles of the agreement and its impact on enhancing national security and regional stability,” and “the agreement and explanatory observations that relate to it” will be presented to the Knesset. He continued, “They also agreed to the Prime Minister’s proposal to present it to the Knesset.”

The agreement and explanatory observations that relate to this evening will be presented in the Knesset, and all deputies will be briefed. The agreement is presented to the government for approval after 14 days.
