Bulgaria imposes a visa system to enter Russian citizens

The government of Bulgaria decided to impose a visa system in order to emphasise the entry of Russian citizens who have service passports and diplomatic passports, which was stated on Bulgarian television.

The Bulgarian Cabinet decided today, Wednesday, to temporarily suspend one of the provisions of the agreement reached between the two countries on reciprocal travel for citizens. This decision bars holders of Russian diplomatic passports and passports with the Book of Service from entering, leaving, crossing, and temporarily residing inside the country without a visa.

According to the Bulgarian television, the visa system for the Russians who hold diplomatic passports has already begun since February 25, 2022 after the launch of the special military operation in Ukraine.
The new ruling states that service passport holders will also be subject to the visa system, and it will go into effect on October 20.

It is noteworthy that employees of fundamental government agencies and businesses in Russia are given service passports as identification cards to use while travelling for business.

Russian people must have a visa to enter Bulgaria.
