News from Al-Madinah: As the Russian war on Ukraine continues, the old continent is experiencing a major energy crisis. On Wednesday, the Polish company Bern announced that it had been monitoring a leak in one of the “Drogba” pipelines that deliver oil from Russia to Europe.
According to the British Guardian newspaper, the corporation in charge of running the tubes announced in a statement that it had found a leak on a section of the tube 70 kilometres from Block Central Poland.
She explained that the reasons for the leakage are currently unknown, and this company said that the second line of pipes in addition to other elements of the company’s infrastructure operates as usual.
While a top energy official stated that cross damage is likely to be the origin of the leak, they excluded the possibility that the leak is the result of sabotage.
According to the Russian news agency, it was told of the Polish side of the leak and that oil supplies to Poland are still being delivered. This is true even though the Drogba tube leaked.
Drogba means friendship, and is the longest oil pipeline in the world, as it carries oil from the eastern region of Russia to points in Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Germany.
Since the discovery of significant leaks in the Nord Stream-1 and 2 gas pipeline, which transports Russian natural gas under the Baltic Sea to Europe, last month, Europe has been on high alert regarding the security of its energy infrastructure.
The European Union is preparing – with the exception of 3 of its members – to ban the import of Russian oil as of the fifth of next December, and also to prevent European insurance companies from covering its transfer operations to other destinations outside the European Union, due to the war that Moscow is fighting against Kyiv.
