Watch: a landslide kills 22 people and displaces dozens in Venezuela

According to Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodrigues, a landslide in the industrial community of Las Tejerias, 70 kilometres southwest of Caracas, has claimed the lives of 22 people and left more than 50 others missing.
According to Agence France-Presse, Rodrigues told local media that “five tables overflowed, indicating serious damage and casualties.

“After the avalanche washed trees away from the mountains, they were left strewn throughout the streets of Las Tejrias and many homes were devastated.
Meanwhile, Interior and Justice Minister Remijo Ceballos Ichasu told AFP that roughly 1,000 people had taken part in the rescue efforts. The minister then went to check it out to see what damage had been done.
Thirteen individuals across the nation had already died as a result of the weeks’ worth of nonstop torrential rain.

It is noteworthy that huge landslides in the state of Vargas, 25 kilometres north of Caracas, claimed 10,000 lives in 1999.
