Tunisia.. Million celebration of the Prophet’s birthday in Kairouan

Al-Madina News: During the Prophet’s birthday celebrations each year, tens of thousands of people go to Kairouan in central Tunisia to participate in this sacred event.
Visitors visited the city explored its streets, historical, and religious landmarks, as well as the marketplaces where tasty regional treats like “Maqroud” and traditional crafts manufactured by Tunisian artists are on exhibit.

Numerous people congregated at the “Uqba bin Nafeh” mosque and in other parts of the city until late on Friday night to listen to Sufi chanting performances in a variety of rhythms.
Singing ensembles from Tunisia and other nations, including Libya, Algeria, Indonesia, and Syria, gave these performances.

According to Tunisian Tourism Minister Mohamed Al-Moez Bel-Hussein, “the number of tourists to the city came on Friday, over one million,” he said to reporters as the Prophet’s birthday celebrations in Kairouan were taking place.

“On the occasion of the celebration of the birth of the Prophet, a celebration rooted in previous generations and the care and hospitality of it were at the level of their religious dedication and their preservation of Islamic laws, Kairouan flaunts and dons the finest clothing from antiquity.

The imam of the “Uqba Ibn Nafeh” mosque in Medina, Sheikh Al-Tayeb Al-Ghazi, who is in his nineties, noted that there are changes in the manner of celebration between what he lived in the past and what exists today in an interview with Anatolia.
He claimed that the world today is different from the one he lived in at the beginning of the 1940s and 1950s.

“The remaining mosques and religious sites are not included in today’s religious celebration, he continued, which is restricted to the Uqba Mosque alone.
He indicated “the loss of significance of the religious celebration at the shrine of Abi Zam’a al-Balawi (a companion) and the discontinuation of a number of religious observances, including the Sahih al-Bukhari reading, that were held there.

In the “Uqba bin Nafie” mosque in Medina, imams and specialized professors gather to narrate to the attendees the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad.
Sheikh Al-Ghazi stated: “Kairouan celebrates and lives joy and happiness on the occasion of every birthday anniversary, and the atmosphere of celebration spreads throughout the city. ”
He added, “However, children, youth and future generations must be educated and given a good image of the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday.

He continued: “The celebration of the Prophet’s birthday in the Uqba bin Nafeh mosque is still preserving the religious and spiritual dimension. ”
He continued: “The celebration of the Mawlid in the mosque cannot deviate from the place of supplications and supplications, and this amount of religious celebration is preserved so that it does not evaporate.

The “Aghlabid Pools” (Fasqiya), a water feature in the city with distinctive architecture that dates back to the third century AH (the ninth century AD), have regained its brilliance this year and have resumed their function as the site of the Mawlid celebrations.

Due to its size and meaning as a cultural relic that serves as a family park, the fountain has been maintained, cleaned, prepped, and illuminated to be able to host celebratory events, such as performances of Sufi chanting and others.
On Friday, thousands of tourists travelled to Al-Faqiya to admire its distinctive architectural design and to take memento images of the location.

If all of Tunisia celebrates the Prophet’s birthday anniversary, Kairouan is the centre of this celebration and the focal point around which festive elements revolve. These aspects store unique customs in terms of the traditions of celebration in homes as well as through various traditional industries.

The city’s economy is bustling during the Prophet’s birthday celebrations, allowing thousands of local artists to advertise their goods. Additionally, the national fairs that were inaugurated to mark the anniversary provide artisans from all over Tunisia a chance to showcase and market their wares.

One of the key components of this celebration is the “Mawlid Market,” which takes place along the highways and streets around the shrine of “Abi Zama al-Balawi” and other parts of the city. Here, a variety of traditional goods, regional foods, and other items are on exhibit.
