The head of Germany’s Greens calls for better protection of critical infrastructure

Following the recent rail sabotage, Omid Nouribur, the leader of the German Green Party, has urged for better security of Germany’s critical infrastructure.
Nouripour claimed in an interview with dpa on Saturday that the current attack on railway cable ties had left train stations in confusion, created delays in supply chains, and instilled a great deal of panic among locals.

The incident, according to Nouripur, made it evident that we must take three actions. He listed the first as the necessity to make significant expenditures in safeguarding critical infrastructure, which includes the energy supply, communications, and transportation sectors.

He cited a “comprehensive law” that the parties in the ruling coalition had agreed upon as a way to organise the protection of these buildings, and he urged Interior Minister Nancy Weser and her ministry to present a draught law in this regard as soon as feasible.

He went on to say that the third of these issues is the requirement for the police and intelligence services to concentrate on protecting facilities that are particularly at risk. He added that the second of these issues is the need to improve the equipment in the means of civil protection and protection from disasters in order to prepare well to confront dangers.

According to the German Federal Police, interference from outside sources at two locations in the states of Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia was to blame for the disruptions in train service in northern Germany this morning.
Two crime scenes were revealed by a police spokeswoman, one of which was in North Rhine-Westphalia but the other was in Berlin’s Hohenschoonhausen neighbourhood.

A targeted external interference for the cables of the German railroad operator Deutsche Bahn is now assumed, the spokesman for the authorities stated, adding that the investigation into the event is ongoing.
