Russia: Appointment of a new commander of the Russian forces in the “special operations” area after the “Crimea” explosion

Sergei Shoigu, the Russian defence minister, made the decision today, on Saturday, designating General Sergei Sorovikin as the head of all Russian forces engaged in combat in Ukraine. This decision is the result of “special military operations” in the area.
The conflict in Ukraine is referred to as a “special military operation” by Russia.

According to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, which was obtained by the Sputnik news agency, “General Sergei Sorovikin was appointed commander of the joint group of forces in the region of special military operation.”
Notably, Sorovikin has been in charge of both the “Southern” Russian forces in the Special Operations Area and the Russian Air Force since October 31, 2017.

Sorovikin’s appointment follows a truck explosion close to a train that was crossing the Crimean Bridge, which connects Crimea to the Russian mainland and caused traffic on the bridge to be disrupted.

After the explosion in “Crimea,” Russia appointed a new chief of its military in the “special operations” sector.
