Quebec police watchdog investigating death of man who fled police hours after stop

Several hours after being pulled over by police for driving while intoxicated, a man died, prompting Quebec’s police watchdog to announce that an investigation has been launched.
According to a press release from the Bureau des enquetes independantes (BEI), the 25-year-old guy was stopped by local police on Sunday just after midnight.
According to the agency, after being escorted to a police station for a breath test that revealed he was over the legal limit, authorities took him home.

Police said they were called back to the man’s Saint-Ferdinand, Quebec, house at around 4 a. m. by the man’s spouse who claimed he had made suicidal remarks, according to the BEI.
According to the police, the man ran into the woods when they got there.
He was discovered unresponsive just before 8 a.m., and the hospital confirmed him dead, according to the police.
