Putin: Ukraine is responsible for the bombing of the Crimean bridge

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday accused Kiev of being responsible for the bombing of the Crimean bridge, two days after the explosion that partially destroyed the bridge connecting the Russian mainland with the peninsula that Moscow annexed from Ukraine years ago. Putin called the incident a “terrorist act.”
According to AFP, he said that “the perpetrators and planners are the Ukrainian intelligence agencies” during a meeting with the director of the Russian Investigative Committee.

“The Crimean bridge was bombed with an eye toward Russian infrastructure,” he continued.
Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the Russian Investigative Committee, in response claimed that the truck bomb travelled through a number of Eastern European nations before detonating in Crimea, claiming that Bulgaria, a NATO member, was one of those nations.
He continued by claiming that Russians and foreigners had assisted Ukrainian intelligence in blowing up a key location that was crucial to Russian infrastructure.

The National Security Council’s deputy chairman, Dmitry Medvedev, cautioned that destroying the Crimean bridge may result in a “doomsday” scenario that could involve the use of nuclear weapons last July.
In a blow to a famous symbol of Moscow’s annexation of the peninsula, it is noteworthy that the truck explosion, which happened on Saturday morning, severely destroyed this bridge across the Kerch Strait, which also includes a road and a train track.

Additionally, it serves as a crucial supply route for the Russian forces that ruled over Sevastopol, a seaside city in southern Ukraine, as well as the majority of the Kherson region.
Putin opened the 19-kilometer bridge connecting the peninsula to Russia’s transportation network in a lavish ceremony four years after Russia annexed Crimea.

After the start of the Russian military action on Ukrainian soil on February 24, 2022, the focus has been on pushing the Kremlin’s portrayal of the Russian-speaking, historically significant Crimea as a part of Russia.
