Putin tightens infrastructure security after bridge explosion

A directive increasing security for the Kerch Bridge and for the energy infrastructure between Crimea and Russia has been signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The initiative has been given to the FSB, Russia’s federal security force, according to a Kremlin statement.
Putin’s action followed an explosion on Saturday (local time) that partially collapsed the bridge connecting Russia and the Crimean Peninsula, crippling a crucial supply route for the Kremlin’s waning combat effort.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a video address, indirectly acknowledged the attack on the bridge by talking about the weather in Crimea but did not address its cause.
“Today was a good and mostly sunny day on the territory of our state,” he said. “Unfortunately, it was cloudy in Crimea. ”
He said Ukraine wants a future “without occupiers. Throughout our territory, in particular in Crimea. ”
Nobody immediately claimed responsibility for the blast, which killed three people.

The speaker of the Crimean regional parliament supported by Russia made accusations against Ukraine, but Moscow refused to place blame.
Although some applauded the demolition on Saturday and Ukrainian officials have regularly threatened to strike the bridge, Kyiv has refrained from taking blame.
