North Korea launches 7th missile in two weeks

According to the South Korean military, which was cited by Yonhap Agency, North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the sea on Saturday night. This was their eighth launch in the previous two weeks.
The chiefs of staff for the South Korean military withheld any additional information.
The Japanese Prime Minister’s office subsequently tweeted that North Korea had launched what was thought to be a ballistic missile in order to confirm the launch. Later, more information.

According to the Japanese authorities, the missile appeared to have landed outside of Japan’s exclusive economic zone. According to the national channel, NHK, the Coast Guard stated that they had not yet been informed of any instances of damage to Japanese ships.
This follows joint military drills between the US and South Korea, which ended Saturday, according to Yonhap. Moreover, earlier this week saw joint drills between Japan, South Korea, and the United States.

In less than two weeks, the communist nation launched six missiles, the most recent of which occurred on Thursday.
The North justified its most recent round of missile tests earlier on Saturday, stating that they were a “legal response” to “direct US military threats,” while Washington, Tokyo, and Seoul saw them as a “severe danger to peace and security.”
