Media: Israel allows the Palestinian Authority to extract gas from Gaza waters

News from Al-Madina According to reports in Western media, the Israeli government will permit the Palestinian Authority to harvest gas from the Gaza Strip’s seas.
The Israeli government would permit the Palestinian Authority to harvest natural gas from the field discovered in 2000 off the coast of the Gaza Strip, according to a Saturday article in the American newspaper “Monitor.”

In 2000, British Gas discovered a gas reserve with more than 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, the newspaper noted, noting that the Israeli government has consistently refused to permit this step for security grounds.

According to the newspaper’s website, Egypt was successful in convincing Israel to permit the Palestinian Authority to harvest natural gas from the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of the Gaza Strip after a gas field was found nearby, around 30 kilometres from Gaza.
The cost of developing the natural gas field was estimated by the American media to be at $1. 2 billion.
