According to authorities, cocaine worth several million euros was found in a shipping container in the province of Catania, which is east of Sicily.
The crate of the tropical fruit arrived in Sicily from Ecuador and was opened by firefighters before being examined by Guardia di Fianza, the Italian financial police, and customs inspectors who noticed an abnormal weld on its exterior.

Officials discovered 96 packages of pure cocaine, they added, in the insulation of the container.
The cocaine, which weighs 110 kilogrammes, was said to have a market worth of almost 12 million euros ($11. 6 million), according to the police.
