In a tragic incident that occurred in the Egyptian city of Sinbillawain on Sunday night, a girl lost her life after her instructor struck her in the head with a wooden stick for making a spelling mistake.
Basmala Osama Ali Muhammad, a 9-year-old student, passed away in intensive care at the University Emergency Hospital in Mansoura, northern Egypt, as a result of a brain haemorrhage brought on by being struck.
At Taranes Al Arab School’s elementary level, the student was asked to write some words on the board but made a mistake, thus the teacher spanked her.
She was then struck on the head with a stick as punishment, which caused bleeding and concussion. She was transferred to the hospital, where she stayed until she passed away.
The girl’s father, on the other hand, charged the teacher with murder, claiming that his daughter had returned home unconscious and had been transported to Sinbillawain Central Hospital, where it was discovered that she had had a major brain haemorrhage and gone into a coma.
The teacher was then detained by the Sinbillawain Investigation Department, who said that he had no intention of hurting the girl.
Ayman Mukhtar, the governor of Dakahlia, decided to dismiss the school director for failing to take appropriate legal action in relation to the incident and failing to notify the appropriate authorities. He also decided to suspend the teacher from his position for three months and refer him to an immediate investigation.
It is important to note that Egypt experienced two traumatic events during the first two days of the school year at the beginning of last week. The first occurred at the Al-Mu’tamidiyah School in the Giza Governorate, where a portion of the concrete fence of the school’s staircase collapsed, killing one female student and injuring 15 others.
In the second instance, a primary school student named Menna Faraj was killed after falling from the third story while attempting to flee her teacher, who had opted to contact her guardian. This happened at Sayed Al-Shuhada School in the same governorate.
