The United States is considering a request for foreign intervention in Haiti

As Haiti deals with one of its biggest health, energy, and security crises, the administration of US President Joe Biden is examining proposals for a humanitarian corridor in the country to halt an armed gang fuel blockade and secure aid delivery.
White House and State Department representatives revealed on Friday that they had discussions during the previous week about the deteriorating situation in Haiti.

Calls for foreign action have been sparked by the confirmation of a deadly cholera outbreak amid significant civil unrest, a months-long blockade of the nation’s ports, and the main Faro petrol station.

The United Nations Integrated Office in Port-au-Prince issued a request for the creation of a “humanitarian corridor” on Thursday, and interim prime minister Ariel Henry publicly published a request for aid from the nation’s international allies for the “immediate deployment” of specialised armed forces on Friday in the government’s official journal, Le Monitor.

A request to “establish a humanitarian corridor to redistribute the fuel throughout Haiti” had been received by the administration from the office of the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Haiti, according to State Department deputy spokesman Vidant Patel, who made the announcement to reporters on Friday.

The US is debating whether to ask for foreign intervention in Haiti.
