Johnson, Barnes face off in first debate Friday

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WBAY) – The first of two big debates in the race for Wisconsin’s U. S. Senate seat starts at 7 o’clock Friday night.
Republican incumbent Ron Johnson and Democratic challenger Mandela Barnes will face off in Milwaukee.
Both candidates have a lot riding on this debate. The race itself has been extremely negative and one of the most expensive in the country.
Until a few weeks ago, Mandela Barnes was considered to have a slight edge, but polling has reversed itself. Now, Sen.

Barnes is trailing Johnson by a couple percentage points.
Johnson’s constant attacks on Barnes, accusing him of being soft on crime, are largely to blame for this.
Barnes has already shown his support for doing away with monetary bail. That will probably come up at the debate on Friday.
Abortion will probably be the subject of another query. On behalf of the “Ron Against Roe” campaign, Barnes has been visiting the state. Barnes claims that he is in favour of unlimited abortion.

Johnson claims he would only favour rape and incest exceptions.
The abortion ban in Wisconsin dates back to 1894 and prohibits all procedures unless two doctors concur that the mother’s life is in danger.
Green energy and inflation-related queries are also probable.
The debate will be broadcast on WBAY-TV 2 and streamed at wbay.com/live. Action 2 News at Ten will provide a report on the debate from Jason Zimmerman.
