Big explosion at Kerch bridge linking Russia and Crimea

The Russian military operation in Ukraine is still ongoing as of today, Saturday. Russian army units are expanding their total control over Ukrainian regions and attacking the positions of the Kyiv forces, who are still advancing and attempting to retake their territory with assistance from the West.

In the most recent developments, the Russian Information Agency said that a fuel tanker caught fire on the Kerch bridge in Crimea in the early hours of Saturday morning, while Ukrainian media claimed that there had been a massive explosion at the bridge connecting Russian territory with Crimea.

The RIA news agency quoted a local official as saying, “According to preliminary information, a fuel tanker caught fire on one of the parts of the bridge located in the Crimea, and the bridge did not cause any damage impacting shipping.” The bridge’s traffic was halted.
Prior to then, the separatist Donetsk Republic claimed that Ukrainian forces had used US HIMARS missiles to bombard the republic’s Ilovysk city.

According to the Donetsk Representation to the Joint Monitoring and Coordination Center, six HIMARS missiles were fired by Ukrainian forces against Ilovysk and Umanskoye at midnight.
Additionally, she stated that five 155mm shells were launched by Kiev forces at the Donetsk neighbourhoods of Kirovsky and Petrovsky.

Following a string of painful setbacks on numerous fronts, Russian forces reported victories in eastern Ukraine on Friday, but Kyiv seems to be holding onto the initiative and has urged Russian soldiers to choose surrender.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, declared on Friday that Kiev’s soldiers have retaken over 2,500 square kilometres of Russian land since the beginning of their counteroffensive at the end of September.

Zelensky stated in his daily social media intervention, “This week alone, our soldiers liberated 776 square kilometres of land in the east of our country and 29 settlements, six of them in the Lugansk area.
Since the start of this military operation, 2,434 square kilometres of our land as well as 96 settlements have been freed, he continued.

Oleksich Reznikov, the defence minister of Ukraine, made the assurance following his country’s victorious counterattack that he would “ensure life, security, and justice” for any Russian soldiers who chose to hand themselves in.
After losing significant tracts of terrain on several fronts in recent weeks, Moscow announced that it had made its first wins, three villages in eastern Ukraine.

The settlements of Otradivka, Visela Dolina, and Zaitsevi, according to pro-Russian separatists fighting with Moscow’s forces, are now under Russian control.
The control of Zaitsev had been declared by the Russian Defense Ministry the day before in its daily report. South of Bakhmut, a city that is under Ukrainian administration, are these three villages. Months of unsuccessful attempts to take control of the region by the Russian army.

According to Governor Sergey Gaidai, the Ukrainian troops also mentioned making progress on Friday, symbolised by their control of the village of Grekyvka in the Lugansk area (east).
According to pro-Russian official Kirill Strimosov, five civilians were killed and five others were injured in a Ukrainian raid that struck a bus of civilians who were travelling to work while crossing a bridge in the occupied Kherson region (south).

Bridges in this region have been frequently targeted by Kiev in an effort to stymie Russian soldiers’ logistical support.
Additionally, the Ukrainian presidency reported that for the second day in a row, Russia launched an attack on the southern Zaporizhia area, hurting one person. In two locations, she claimed, “the infrastructure was damaged using drones for the first time.”
According to Ukraine’s Emergency Management Authority, eleven persons were killed in Russian airstrikes on Zaporizhia the day before.
