Bahrain affirms its firm position calling for nuclear disarmament

In light of the ongoing conflicts and flashpoints of tension around the globe, the persistence of terrorist threats, and the potential for these terrorist organisations to gain access to various types of weapons, including weapons of mass destruction, the Kingdom of Bahrain has reaffirmed its firm position calling for nuclear disarmament as the only means of guaranteeing that it will not be used.

This was stated during a speech made by Ambassador Jamal Faris Al-Ruwai’i, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, during the general debate of the Committee on Disarmament and International Security of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, according to the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), which was published today, Saturday.

“The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons is the cornerstone of international efforts aimed at promoting nuclear disarmament, preventing the spread of nuclear weapons, and promoting cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy,” the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain stated, highlighting the significance of strengthening cooperation with the international community and the relevant authorities to limit the spread of nuclear weapons.

Nuclear weapons, and ensuring that states have the freedom to use nuclear energy as efficiently as possible for non-military purposes while implementing safeguards to ensure nuclear security and safety.

Referring to the conclusions of the second session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction in the Middle East, Al-Rowaie also emphasised the significance of putting into practise the 1995 Review Conference decision regarding the Middle East free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. The distinguished presidency of a country Kuwait also expressed aspiration The Kingdom of Bahrain to actively pursue this goal.

Iran was urged to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency and to strive toward making the Middle East, particularly the Arabian Gulf, a region free of weapons of mass destruction, according to the permanent representative.
