According to a Ukrainian official source, at least 14 persons were killed during bombing operations on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia on Thursday morning. Seven missiles were fired at the city.
“The study of the building debris left behind after the attack has caused damage has given us the terrible news. The number of fatalities has already reached 14 “Anatoly Kortev, the general secretary of the city council, stated on Telegram on Friday night.
The first consequence from Thursday was discussing the one fatality and seven injuries.
The number of fatalities was increased to eleven by the Ukrainian Emergency Management Authority on Friday.
Three of the seven missiles that struck Zaporizhia at five in the morning on Thursday fell on the city’s core. Only the ground floor of a five-story structure that overlooked the city’s major thoroughfare survived the blast. Rubble developed from what was left.
This is hardly the city’s first disaster.
On September 30, a rocket struck a parking lot outside of Zaporizhia, killing 31 persons there. The other 30 people, with the exception of a police officer, wanted to go back to the region of Ukraine that was under Russian authority.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, stated on Telegram on Friday that Zaporizhia “is subjected to enormous missile attacks every day,” which he referred to as a “knowing crime.”
Moscow has proclaimed the region around the city of Zaporizhia, which is governed by Ukraine, to be annexed, albeit it retains some degree of influence over it.
The Zaporizhia nuclear power station, which the Russians have been occupying since the beginning of March, is around 60 kilometres northeast of it. Moscow and Kyiv have traded accusations of bombing the plant for months.
