UNICEF: Disastrous floods in Pakistan claimed the lives of 615 children

Despite the fact that nearly 10 million children currently require immediate life-saving assistance, UNICEF reported that 615 children lost their lives as a result of the devastating floods in Pakistan and issued a dire warning that more children will perish if urgent action is not taken and without immediate international assistance.

In a report released today, Friday, in Geneva, the International Organization stated that more than seven million children and women in Pakistan’s affected areas require nutrition services as well as more than eight million health services. Additionally, the report stated that even before these severe floods hit Pakistan, the average rate of stunting for children under the age of five was already 50% in the affected areas.

The group issued a dire warning about the grave risks to children’s life who have been living with their families in abandoned tents for more than eight weeks, often just metres away from stagnant, contaminated pools of water that are packed with infections and viruses.
She clarified that six people have been affected by the damage to water supply networks and sanitary facilities.

3 million people require immediate access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services, especially since many families are forced to drink contaminated water and suffer the consequences of deadly water-borne illnesses like cholera, diarrhoea, dengue fever, and malaria, which only worsen the already severe malnutrition that many of these families already experience.
The organisation emphasised that it has amended its demand to $173 since it is unable to address the immense scope of the destruction and avert a serious disaster without additional rapid support.

5 million as a part of the $816 million United Nations flash appeal to support the government of Pakistan’s reaction to the floods, and stated that up to this point, only financing has made up 13% of the organization’s humanitarian appeal.
