Turkey appoints its first ambassador to Tel Aviv after “normalizing” relations with Israel

Turkish TRT television reported today, Thursday, that Ankara has appointed Shakir Ozcan Turnolar as its first ambassador to Tel Aviv after the “normalization” of relations with Israel.
The television said this was the first Turkish ambassador to Israel in four years.
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid recently announced his government’s approval of the appointment of Irit Lilian as the country’s new ambassador to Turkey.

Lapid described the appointment of an ambassador to Turkey as an “important step” in improving relations with Ankara.
Last August, Turkey and Israel agreed to reappoint the ambassadors more than four years after they were recalled, another milestone in the months-long process of improving relations.

An “essential step” in fostering better ties with Ankara, according to Lapid, was the appointment of an ambassador to Turkey.
After being recalled more than four years ago, Turkey and Israel decided to appoint the ambassadors again in August of last year, marking another significant step in the months-long process of thawing relations.

Following a period of hostility that lasted more than ten years, the visit by Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Turkey in March of last year, which was followed by visits by the two foreign ministers, helped to improve relations.

After “normalising” relations with Israel, Turkey selects its first ambassador to Tel Aviv.
