Brian Dees, the chairman of the White House National Economic Council, declared that the US government would explore possible responses to the “OPEC” organisation and would contact Congress on the matter.
Regarding the NOPEC oil market anti-monopoly bill, Dess stated to reporters on Thursday, “We intend to consult with Congress on additional measures.
Several initiatives have been raised and discussed over a particular period, and we plan to continue talking until we determine what instruments we need and whether we do.” in this setting at first.
He continued, “We plan to have consultations on all current initiatives at the legislative level.”
President Joe Biden had earlier emphasised the necessity to research all available options, assess the situation, and formulate suggestions, he recalled.
“That is what we have accomplished.
and we will keep doing that,” Dess said.
It should be remembered that the NOPEC bill’s objective is to grant US courts the jurisdiction to hear lawsuits against OPEC nations and other nations that, in Washington’s opinion, “monopolise the oil market” and to take action against them.
The “OPEC Plus” group decided to prolong the production cut agreement through the end of 2023 while reducing oil production by two million barrels per day beginning in November of next year.
Dees commented on this choice, calling it “unjustified and unnecessary at a time when low demand is a severe problem,” adding that the United States is “disappointed” with it.
Washington, he continued, works to “keep price stability and sufficient global demand for energy commodities, including oil and gas.
He emphasised that Washington is considering taking action in this respect and noted the importance of lowering the nation’s gas prices.
