The Russian Foreign Ministry responds to a ceiling on oil prices

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that in reaction to putting a cap on oil prices, Russia will reorient its supplies toward the nations it wishes to collaborate with.

This was revealed in a press statement that was released by Zakharova today, Thursday. She went on to say that “the initiative of the Group of Seven major industrialised countries to determine a kind of arbitrary ceiling for Russian oil prices is another confirmation that the principles of market economy are alien to Brussels and Washington,” noting that Russia’s response is to restore directing oil exports to those nations that are naturally willing to cooperate with Moscow.

Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier stated that if providing goods or services to other countries went against its own interests, Russia would not do so. This was in response to a proposal by the West to cap the cost of Russian energy supplies.
