The International Energy Agency: The risk of a nuclear accident in Zaporizhia remains

Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Energy Agency, stated on Thursday that there is still a chance for a catastrophic catastrophe at the Russian-occupied nuclear power facility in Ukraine.
Grossi said during a visit to Kyiv on Thursday that “we keep saying what needs to be done, which is basically: to avoid a nuclear disaster at the plant, which is still very plainly feasible.”
Fighting has been intense at the large facility in southeast Ukraine.

Although its final operational reactor was shut down in September of last year, there is still a danger of catastrophe because atomic materials must to be cooled to prevent meltdown.
The largest nuclear power plant in Europe, which is still staffed by Ukrainians, should have a “safety zone,” according to Grossi. He stated on Thursday that discussions between Moscow and Kiev are still ongoing.
In order to help ensure the safety of the plant, he stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency’s staff at the site in Zaporizhia will be boosted from two to four.

He emphasised that the agency makes no remarks about military issues. The nationalisation of the nuclear plant by Russia and the annexation of the nearby territory, he asserted, are against international law. According to him, Zaporizhia is a nuclear power facility in Ukraine for the IAEA.

It is interesting that Russia and Ukraine have recently traded accusations of bombing the Zaporizhia plant, sparking worries that damage to the plant could threaten a nuclear disaster like to the one that occurred when the Chernobyl reactor exploded in 1986.
