The head of the UN mission in Iraq warns of a new bloodbath, and Al-Sadr freezes his political retirement

In her briefing to the UN Security Council on Tuesday, Jenin Plaschaert, the head of the UN mission in Iraq, emphasised that it is impossible to foresee when the political divisions that have substantially impacted individuals’ lives would stop. She also asked the political parties to support the Prime Minister Mustafa Al-plan Kazemi’s for national discussion as long as everyone takes part.

We emphasise the need for peaceful protests, the need for responsible behaviour on the part of all parties during tense times, and the need for leaders to be ready to take charge and find political solutions during the post-election period when the Iraqis were being held hostage by an uncontrollable and unsustainable situation that could result in armed clashes. At the conclusion of the current year 2022, government spending will come to an end since the continuation of political failure would exacerbate the failure and widespread corruption throughout the state.

Regarding the Iranian and Turkish bombardment of the Kurdistan region, the UN ambassador issued a warning against allowing these violations to turn into the new standard. This is especially true in view of the repeated Iranian attacks from last week, which must stop.
Following this briefing, the founder of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, broke his quiet and declared his departure from politics.

In response to Blackshart, he tweeted, “We agree to conversation as long as it is public in order to hold the corrupt accountable under the pretext of an impartial judiciary and to exclude all participants in the political process and previous elections. We are ready to help the UN with their probe.” Reform takes place over time.

We support the UN Security Council’s calls for all parties to use restraint and refrain from using force or weapons, as well as for those culpable, whoever they may be, to be swiftly punished.

Al-Sadr was not a part of the coordination structure close to Iran, which declined to comment on Blackshart’s briefing but recently announced that a new parliamentary session would be held and that a government with full authority would be formed. Three months ago, Al-Sadr ordered his parliamentary bloc to resign from Parliament and refused to participate in what he called a corrupt and subordinationist in the government.

Al-Sadr delays his political retirement as the head of the UN mission in Iraq foresees new slaughter.
