According to Al-Madina News, the Arab League has condemned the British Prime Minister’s remarks that her country will be transferring its embassy to Jerusalem because they pose a threat to the two-state solution and are unconstitutional.
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the secretary-general of the League of Arab States, expressed “great alarm” at recent remarks made by the British prime minister Liz Terrace regarding the relocation of the British embassy to Jerusalem, reiterating “the Arab League’s rejection of any unilateral measures that constitute a violation of international law, and the historical and legal status of Jerusalem.”
The institution sent a statement through Jamal Rushdie, the secretary-spokesman, general’s claiming that Aboul Gheit’s rejection occurred during a videotaped talk he gave to the British Conservative Party conference yesterday.
Rushdie emphasised that Aboul Gheit used the occasion to remind the British government of the importance of upholding the two-state solution as the final formula for peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians and to forgo taking any illegal actions that might jeopardise the possibility of implementing this formula on the ground in the future.
The British Prime Minister Liz Truss notified Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid that she was thinking about moving the British Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, according to the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz.
According to the newspaper’s website, this occurred during their most recent meeting in New York, which was held in conjunction with the UN General Assembly.
Britain maintains diplomatic ties with Israel through its embassy in Tel Aviv and with the Palestinian Authority through its general consulate in East Jerusalem.
