Russia will resume gas deliveries to Italy

The biggest gas business in the nation, Gazprom, announced on Wednesday that it will resume gas exports to Italy after they were suspended on Saturday due to a “problem” in Austria, where Russian gas travels through.
According to a statement from the Russian company, it collaborated with Italian clients to “find a means to manage interaction under the limits of the regulatory amendments” on the Austrian side that took place “at the end of September” and led to the suspension of supplies to Italy.

After deliveries stopped at the end of the week, Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi stated on Monday that it is anticipated that the flow of Russian gas to Italy via Austria will resume soon.
Descalzi was quoted as claiming that Eni aimed to offer Austria significant assurances for the supply of Russian gas back to Italy by the Italian news agencies “ANSA” and “Adnkronos.”

Gas shipments to Italy were halted on Saturday by Russian energy giant Gazprom, which blamed a change in laws for making it impossible to pay 20 million euros ($19.6 million) in security guarantees to the Austrian operator.
In order to continue gas transit through Austria, Eni is looking for cash.
Descalzi stated that the problems arose due to the peculiarities of payments, whether made in euros or Russian rubles, and that the cessation of supply “was not for geopolitical reasons.”

Russian gas shipments to Italy will resume.
