Pakistan floods: Canada will double matching donations to $7.5M

The amount of donations the federal government will match has more than doubled to assist Pakistan’s citizens in recovering from catastrophic flooding.
Harjit Sajjan, the minister of international development, said on Twitter on Wednesday that Canada would match the $7.5 million that Canadians have given to the Humanitarian Coalition.
Just $3 million was promised by the government three weeks earlier, on top of the $30 million already allotted by Ottawa.

Sajjan announced last week that he would increase that amount to $5 million in an effort to garner more popular support.
This summer’s intense monsoon rains submerged a third of Pakistan, leading to a catastrophic food scarcity and destroying the livelihoods of millions.
The former Harper administration provided $71. 8 million for relief efforts in Pakistan in 2010, including $46. 8 million in donations that Ottawa matched.

Canada will increase matching donations for Pakistan flood relief by $7.5 million.
