Merkel: It is important to take the statements about the Ukraine war seriously

Angela Merkel, a former German chancellor, emphasised the need of not brushing off warnings made during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a farce.
Merkel also stated that the Russian invasion of Ukraine was a “deep turning moment” on Thursday evening at a party in Munich honouring the publication of the newspaper “Süddeutsche Zeitung” for 77 years.

She also cautioned that it is important that “we all take the statements seriously, handle them carefully, and not categorise them as hoaxes from the outset” at that time.
Merkel emphasised that only Russia’s involvement can lead to enduring peace in Europe. The seasoned politician declared, “The Cold War isn’t really gone as long as we don’t manage to achieve that.
After being in office for 16 years, Merkel, 68, withdrew from politics last year.

Since then, she has virtually disappeared from the public eye. The release of her memoirs is scheduled for the end of 2024.
