German president hails Nobel Peace Prize laureates as ‘deserved recognition’

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the president of Germany, thanked the Belarusian, Russian, and Ukrainian human rights advocates who were given this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.
Steinmeier responded on Friday to the award winners, saying, “This accolade is well earned for the hard and brave work you have done for so many years.”
They were advocating for democracy in their nations and serving as a model in opposition to the established structures, Steinmeier continued.

This year, the Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties, the Russian Memorial Organization, and imprisoned Belarusian human rights attorney Alice Bialjazki all received the world’s most prestigious peace prize.
These laureates have excelled in furthering democracy, human rights, and civic liberties, Steinmeier continued.

They contend with the encroachment of peaceful civil society forces and speak up against oppression, while also emphasising that they frequently accept high personal taxes in exchange for their labour.
