Egypt .. Imprisonment of a mother who threw her two children from the balcony after a phone call

In a tragic occurrence, a mother in Egypt hurled her two kids off the balcony of her house in Helwan, south of Cairo, as vengeance for her ex-husband, and the Public Prosecution chose to jail her while they looked into the matter.
On Thursday night, the Public Prosecution was informed that a mother in Helwan’s Atlas neighbourhood had thrown her two children from the balcony.

A team from the prosecution arrived at the scene of the occurrence right once to investigate, lay out the facts, and hear what neighbours and witnesses had to say.
According to security forces’ investigations, the mother of the two kids has a mental disorder, she and her ex-husband had been having arguments, and she hurled her two kids—Yasmine Walid, 12, and Muhammad, 8—from the balcony of her first-floor home as vengeance.

The prosecution claimed that surveillance footage from cameras near the scene showed the two kids falling, respectively, from the balcony of the house. It also said that it had listened to the two kids’, two neighbours’, and a social researcher from the National Council for Motherhood and Childhood’s testimonies.

The prosecution made it known that on the day of the occurrence, the mother and her ex-husband got into a heated telephone conversation during which she threatened to kill the two children if he did not provide for them.

In addition to ordering the pretrial arrest of the accused, the Public Prosecution also decided to delegate the Forensic Medicine Authority to sign an examination of the two children to explain their injuries and their cause. The two children were given to their father by their grandmother.
