Canadian Trade Minister visits Indonesia to boost economic ties

Mary Ng, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business, and Economic Development, will visit Indonesia on Monday to boost trade ties in the Indo-Pacific region, the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta announced on Friday.

Minister Ng will visit Jakarta from October 10 to October 12, according to a statement from the Canadian embassy, which was cited by the Indonesian news agency Antara. While there, she will meet with representatives of the Indonesian government and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to improve Canadian trade and investment ties in the Indo-Pacific region.

In order to improve bilateral connections and commerce between Canada and Indonesia, Minister Ng will also engage with corporate executives, particularly businesswomen.
This year celebrates the 45th anniversary of Canada and ASEAN as partners as well as the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Canada and Indonesia.

Therefore, Minister Ng will also talk about how the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the Canada-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement negotiations are going (FTA).
Secretary Ng will make a case for the improvement of the rules-based international trading system while concentrating on enhancing Canada’s trade diversification plan and economic resilience.

Ng will travel to Singapore today and tomorrow to attend meetings of the Comprehensive and Advanced Agreement for the Trans-Pacific Partnership before travelling to Indonesia.

To deepen trade relations, the Canadian Trade Minister travels to Indonesia.
