Sudanese request UN assistance to integrate the army.. a draft reveals

It seems that certain civilian groups are attempting to persuade the United Nations Mission in Sudan to assist it in disarming and demobilising their members or integrating the Rapid Support Forces and former rebel factions into an united army while the political crisis in Sudan continues.
Authors of a letter sent to the mission by the Confederation of Sudanese Civil Society Organizations made it clear that they had the backing of the major opposition political parties in the nation.

Additionally, they said Volker Perthes, the UN Special Representative for Sudan, will receive it in the upcoming days.
Additionally, the letter requested that the UN mission create an immediate plan to launch the procedures for demobilising and disarming the personnel of armed movements and Rapid Support Forces once it had established a presence in Khartoum following the signing of the peace agreement in 2020, according to Reuters.

She also thought that the country’s diversity of militaries and armed groups was a threat to regional peace and security, saying that the UN Security Council’s integration of such matters is one of its core mandates.
Peretz “concurs with both military and civilian players that security sector reform and the unification of the armed forces into a unified army are a priority problem that must begin in a new transitional period,” the UN mission emphasised in a statement to Reuters.

She further emphasised that the UN is prepared to assist in the creation of such a procedure upon request.
It is noteworthy that Sudan, one of the world’s poorest nations, has been mired in political and economic stagnation since October 25, 2021, when the army imposed extraordinary measures and toppled the previous government, despite all the efforts of the African Union and the United Nations to start dialogue sessions that result in a resolution.

Despite the Armed Forces Commander, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, declaring since last July 2022 that the military component will not interfere in political life, not all UN and African mediators have so far been successful in pressuring the political parties to form a new government.
The country’s biggest civil bloc, the Forces for Freedom and Change, viewed these assertions or the initiative as a mere “tactic” to maintain power.

The Sudanese ask the UN for help integrating the army, according to a draught.
