The Danish Queen Margrethe II has expressed regret for depriving four of her grandchildren of their royal titles, but she has not altered her position.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, who is 82 years old, has chosen to deprive four of her eight grandchildren of their royal titles.
The Queen issued a statement saying, “In recent days, there has been strong reaction to my decision about the future use of the surnames for Prince Joachim’s four children.”

“I made my decision a long time ago. It makes sense to look both past and forward after 50 years in power. As Queen, it is my responsibility and ambition to make sure that the monarchy always adapts to the times. While other royals made a similar decision to shrink the size of the monarchy, the queen of Denmark claimed she had made the “amendment” to allow younger members of the royal family to pursue more normal lives.
She removed the titles from her grandchildren. The Danish Queen regrets but does not reverse her decision.
