Security Council fails to reach a unified position on North Korea after its missile test

In response to North Korea’s most recent missile launch, the UN Security Council was unable to come to an agreement.
After a plan to publish a joint statement during the preparations for the meeting was thwarted, diplomats indicated a statement was not anticipated during the emergency summit in New York.

During the UN Security Council meeting, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas Greenfield said, “We have all assumed a responsibility to safeguard and defend international peace and security by serving on this Council.”
She continued by saying that the UN Security Council’s silence provided North Korea the confidence to take action while also showing that Washington was still open to negotiations with Pyongyang.

Geng Shuang, the vice ambassador for China, on the other hand, attributed North Korea’s actions to the US, claiming that Washington has in the past failed to effectively react to disarmament initiatives.
In order to foster the atmosphere for discussion, he added, “We call on the United States to take concrete acts that demonstrate that honesty effectively resolves the genuine and justifiable concerns of the DPRK.
