Kyiv announces the start of its accession dialogue to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development

Denis Shmyal, the prime minister of Ukraine, announced that negotiations to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development have begun, with plans to establish a branch as soon as feasible in Kyiv, the country’s capital.
According to the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Matthias Korman, the organization’s Secretary-General in Lugano, received his application to join in July of last year.

Schmihal claimed that at the beginning of the OECD meeting last week where the request was discussed, he was connected via video call.
Corman revealed today that initial discussions on Ukraine’s application for membership had begun.
The OECD Council will begin working on the draught roadmap, he continued, and they are preparing for the early inauguration of an OECD office in Ukraine.

He pointed out that the Economic Cooperation Organization, commonly known as the “Successful Countries Club,” accounts for more than 62% of the world’s gross domestic product.
Shmyhal emphasised that Ukraine’s inclusion in the group of developed nations is a crucial indicator of its readiness to join the European Union as well as a message to international investment firms that his nation is an attractive location for investment.
