Al-Madina News: Following the government’s customary resignation following the recent legislative elections that were held at the end of last month, Kuwait announced on Wednesday the selection of Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as Prime Minister.
Additionally, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) announced that a “emiri order” had been issued, designating Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as prime minister and giving him responsibility for choosing the members of the new government.
The day after the results of the National Assembly elections were revealed, the administration led by Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Sabah submitted his resignation in accordance with Kuwait’s constitution.
The previous administration, led by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, resigned in July of last year after encountering strong opposition in the parliament. This appointment came months after the resignation of the Al-Nawaf administration.
In the legislative elections for the oil-rich Gulf state, which has an uncommon political life as compared to its neighbours, Kuwait’s opposition won again two months after the parliament was dissolved, and women were reinstated in the legislature.
