Grossi: There is no security risk to the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

Rafael Grossi, the director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, stressed on Tuesday that there is “no danger” to the Ukrainian facility, implying that the official who was released by Russia will not complete his duties, the day after the Russians expelled the director of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
There is absolutely no threat, Grossi told AFP as he left Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

In light of the fact that Igor Murashov, the plant’s general manager, was dismissed on Monday after being detained by the Russians for more than two days, his statement was made in answer to a query on a potential security risk at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
The most crucial aspect of Murachov, according to Grossi, is that he was freed and brought back to his family.

The general manager of the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, who was detained by a “Russian patrol” as he travelled from the facility to the Russian-controlled town of Ernogodar, was freed on Tuesday.
Early in March, Russian forces took control of the largest nuclear power facility in Europe, Zaporizhia, which is not far from the border between the areas under Kievan administration and those taken by Moscow.

One of the Ukrainian regions that Russia legally annexed on Friday was Zaporizhia.
Moscow and Kiev have been blaming one another for months for blasting the station’s location.
In the following days, Grossi will travel to Russia and Ukraine to talk about nuclear safety.
