Canada condemns North Korea’s ballistic missile launch, calls for return to dialogue and diplomacy

The Canadian government on Wednesday condemned North Korea’s launch of medium-sized ballistic missiles, calling on Pyongyang to return to dialogue and diplomacy.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie said – in a press statement – that the Canadian government issued a strong condemnation of North Korea’s recent launches of medium ballistic missiles.

Ottawa is concerned about Pyongyang’s medium ballistic missiles launched earlier yesterday and flying over Japan, Jolie continued. “Canada firmly condemns North Korea’s reckless launch of missiles that endanger peace, security, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.”
Jolie urged Pyongyang to resume talks and diplomacy, pointing out that North Korea unnecessarily increased regional tensions and broke many UN Security Council resolutions.

This is the sixth ballistic missile launch by North Korea in the last ten days, and it occurred on Tuesday. The missile was aimed at the Sea of Japan.

In a related context, the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation reported that the ballistic missile fired by North Korea flew over Japanese territory, specifically over the northeastern prefecture of Aomori and the main island of Hokkaido in far northern Japan, where the government had advised residents to seek shelter inside of buildings.

The incident sparked worldwide criticism, with the United States and its allies denouncing Pyongyang and requesting an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday to discuss the DPRK’s missile launch.

Canada denounces North Korea’s launch of a ballistic missile and urges a resumption of diplomatic relations.
