Calgary police identify arson suspect they believe could be in Winnipeg

Police have named a man they think is responsible for a pair of house fires in Calgary’s Varsity neighbourhood that occurred five months ago.
Police are now asking the public for assistance in finding the individual, who they think may be in Alberta or Manitoba.
On May 18, shortly after three in the morning, the Varsity Estates Drive N. W. 1100 block experienced a fire.
According to authorities, a guy was seen on the CCTV tape igniting a private shed before escaping the scene.

The house and garage both caught fire. Before starting the fire, according to investigators, the individual was cruising the neighbourhood in his automobile.
On June 4, at around 5 a.m., a second fire was reported in the 1200 block of Varsity Estates Road N. W., where police believe the same person was responsible. He is again suspected of prowling cars before starting the fire.
Police identified the culprit as Dominik Wesley Bird, 24, throughout the course of the subsequent months.

Bird was charged with two counts of arson with disregard for human life and one count of illegal use of a credit card. A warrant has also been issued for his arrest.
Police believe Bird has ties to Calgary and Winnipeg, and are asking for tips from the public to locate him.
