Eight Iranian-made suicide drones were shot down by Ukrainian forces during the Russian attacks, according to the general staff of the Ukrainian Army.
In Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, five Iranian Shahed 136 drones have reportedly been shot down so far, according to Ukrainian forces.
On September 13, Ukrainian forces declared that they had shot down one of the “suicide drones” built in Iran that Russia had been employing against Ukraine.
The Ukrainian army reported on Friday that it had downed six Shahed-136 suicide aircraft close to the Odessa port.
In a statement released on September 23, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that it had decided to revoke the credentials of Iran’s ambassador to Ukraine and drastically scale up the staff at the Iranian embassy in Kiev in response to Russia’s use of Iranian drones in its attack on Ukraine.
On September 17, the Wall Street Journal cited Ukrainian officials and unaffiliated specialists who claimed that Russia has recently used Iranian drones to carry out a number of deadly attacks in the city of Kharkiv and that this posed new dangers for Ukrainian military.
The 92nd Artillery Battalion commander, Colonel Rodion Colagin, said that Russia had given the “Shah 136” suicide plane a new paint job and given it the designation “Granium 2.”
According to The Wall Street Journal, Kharkiv appears to be the main base for Iranian drones. where Ukrainian troops made a significant counterattack and reclaimed some of its territory.
The published claim of Iranian drones crashing in Ukraine did not receive a response from the Iranian authorities, who had previously denied sending drones to Russia.
Iranian drone usage in the conflict with Ukraine, according to US State Department spokesperson Ned Price on September 14, is “part of the same harmful impact” Iran “exercises throughout the area and beyond.”
