The Russian Federation Council approves the annexation of 4 Ukrainian regions

The annexation of the Ukrainian provinces of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson by Moscow was accepted by the Federation Council of the Russian Parliament, in defiance of international law and to the outrage of Western nations everywhere.
According to the state-run TASS news agency, the Federation Council (the upper house of parliament) unanimously approved a bill to add these regions to the Russian Federation.

The accession agreements were signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin last Friday and were approved by the State Duma (lower house of parliament) on Monday. Putin’s soldiers launched the invasion of Ukraine in February of last year. The annexation law will become effective after Putin signs it.
Several legislation governing the full annexation of Ukrainian areas in Russia as well as a transitional period until 2026 have already been passed by the State Duma.
