Kelowna taxi drivers prepare for potential transit strike

At least one Kelowna taxi firm claims it is ready for a possible increase in clients as a potential BC Transit strike looms.
Bus drivers in the Central Okanagan have increased their job action over the past six weeks. This includes failing to enforce toll payments, wear uniforms, and declining to work overtime.
Employees of BC Transit made an announcement that they would strike if negotiations did not progress by Wednesday.

Following a same strike a few years ago, Kelowna Cabs is prepared for a comparable fare increase.
We have been closely monitoring it, and the good thing about us is that we can modify our fleet. According to Roy Paulson, a spokesman for Kelowna Cabs, “the more cars we need, the more we can have on the road. The company’s whole fleet will be ready to manage the overflow.
Not just Kelowna Cabs is prepared for a possible strike.

In anticipation of a possible strike, students at the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) have been looking for alternate forms of transportation. According to Paulson, the taxi company aims to relieve the burden on students.
“Students travelling to and from UBCO will receive a 10% discount when they provide their student identification card. We want to be available to everyone.
For West Kelowna riders, Kelowna Cabs will also have additional vehicles available.

“I am aware that some people there rely on public transportation and travel all the way from the westside to UBCO. It’s a fairly expensive dish.
Even though there will be more cabs on the road, Paulson warns that wait times could increase by up to 20 minutes.
