The death toll from the demonstrations in Tahrir Square in Baghdad has risen to 63 demonstrators, 40 affiliates and officers

63 protesters and 40 members and officers of the security forces have died as a result of the demonstrations that took place in Tahrir Square in the capital, Baghdad.

According to an unnamed Iraqi security source cited by the station, more than 40 members and officers were hurt by stones, Molotov cocktails, and hunting rifles, while 63 protesters were hurt by rubber bullets, tear gas grenades, stampedes, and a variety of other weapons.

According to a security source in Iraq, the demonstrations that the nation witnessed resulted in the deaths of over 27 protesters from suffocation and other injuries from rubber bullets and tear gas canisters, as well as the injuries of over 24 members and officers.

It should be noted that Iraq is currently in a state of political impasse as a result of the October 2021 parliamentary elections, the shaky formation of a new government in Baghdad in accordance with the election results announced on November 30, 2021, and the June 12 resignation of the representatives of the Sadrist movement (74 deputies) from Parliament. The supporters of the “Sadr movement” stormed the Iraqi parliament in the heavily fortified Green Zone twice in the span of three days after Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, a candidate put forth by the Iraqi “coordinating” framework on July 25, was rejected. They then announced an open sit-in at the parliament’s main building for July 30, 2022.

There were injuries from armed skirmishes and explosives that occurred inside the Green Zone in the middle of the city; al-Sadr also demanded that his supporters’ sit-in inside the Green Zone in central Baghdad halt.

63 protesters, 40 affiliates, and cops have already died as a result of the demonstrations in Tahrir Square in Baghdad.
