Russian gas puts impossible decisions before the Italian government

The Italian energy company “Eni” reportedly disclosed that it had received notification from the Russian energy giant “Gazprom” that it would not be able to supply it with the necessary quantities of gas on October 1 because of the impossibility of transit through Austria, according to the Russian news agency “Novosti.”

In a statement, the Italian business stated: “Due to its declaration that it is impossible to transport gas through Austria, Gazprom has notified us that it is unable to confirm and supply the volumes of gas needed today. As a result, there will be no flow of Russian gas toward Eni at the Tarvisio border.”
In the event that supplies are restarted, the company (Eni) will announce any new information, according to the statement.

Italian safety measures
Since the share of supplies coming from Russia, Italy’s primary source of natural gas supplies, has decreased over the past several years, the country has been trying to diversify its sources of energy in particular.

The Italian government put up a number of ideas to deal with the gas crisis, the most crucial of which is the proposal to cut back on natural gas use over the forthcoming winter, which is typically the peak time for energy consumption in Europe.

By expanding the use of coal, lowering the level of heating throughout, and encouraging individuals to adopt new behaviours, the Italian government hopes to minimise its reliance on natural gas during the winter months, according to a document sent by the Ministry of Environmental Transformation.
To meet the 15% reduction target rate set by the European Union, Italy set a goal to cut its gas consumption by 8.2 billion cubic feet by next March as part of this plan.
